Does not have a hook. It has a little clip. We just clipped on bread and pieces of chicken. The kids caught a crab using it and minnows. Good to have a net! Have glue ready because the pole might disconnect from the handle. But honestly, it's the best thing on the market for a kid under 5 who has never fished. The last thing I need are real hooks flying through the air from a 4 year old who doesn't understand permanent disfigurement...not trusting them with my eyes or their eyes aha.
