I am a drum fishing addict. I specifically target big drum off the beach along the entire NC coast. My go to line for 15 years has been Suffix Tritanium in 17lb test. Several people had good things to say about this newer version of Chrome so I figured I would give it a try. I spent the week of Easter this year at Cape Hatteras Point in Buxton NC. It has been the best drum bite I've witnessed. I managed to land 8 or 10 big drum and a couple medium sized sharks. However, I lost more fish that week then I have in the previous 10 years combined due to break offs. Anyone who has fished The Point in a drum bite knows you will get a few, but I got more then just a couple. I easily broke twice as many drum off then I landed. The 16 just doesnt have the abrasion resistance that Suffix 17 does at the same listed diameter. I did speak to a couple guys out there and they swore by the 20lb so maybe I was expecting too much.Another thing I noticed of the line was that after only 2 or 3 casts with the fresh line on my reel, I could see the color change as I wound it on the spool. Under my red light I could see the line that was stretched had an almost milky haze to it. I have seen that in the past with the old Cuda line and I've seen it with Big Game, which is why I never fished them more then a test run. This was fresh line off the 1lb spool that sits in the box out of the sun lite at all times. Ill give the 20 a shot before I completely go away from this product for the simple fact that some of the guys I know fishing it are hard core and they trust it. Ill finish out my spool of 16 when I know I am on flat beach with less chance to rub lines or a bar. I was able to land every fish I hooked last fall at another beach less crowded, so the line is OK and I have high hopes for it, right now I still trust my Suffix more.
